Look at the speedometer and see if it only happens at a certain speed. My new 550 does the same thing As I was accelerating it would whistle, when I would let off it would stop. Usually it would whistle at any acceleration once I was about ~1800 rpms. But once the engine warmed up, it went away. Sometimes I can also hear the noise when the speed drops from 120 to 100 km/h. Brought it in once and the technician said that it's a characteristic of RAV4 But, my biggest concern was when I took it home, during the first few days I noticed that every time I accelerated up through the gears, I noticed this low pitch whining / whistling sound. A lot of the noises are familiar to me since my old Camry also made the same noise. On mine, the AC noise is different from the whining noise while accelerating. The AC noise is more of A hissing or sighing noise for me. I also didn't have my AC on when I first started noticing the noise.
